Meet The Face Behind Prosperity Bookkeeping LLC

I’m Kristie Van Pay, the proud owner of Prosperity Bookkeeping LLC. I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

My journey as a business owner began when I had quit my corporate job as an accountant for a consulting firm to spend more time with my children before my youngest started 4K. I tried my hand at flipping houses, managed to flip one after what felt like a million sleepless nights, and decided that industry was not really a fit for my conservative tendencies.

It was during a spiritual gifting class at church that I received the revelation that financial stewardship is my spiritual gift and calling. That gave me the confidence to know that if God is for me, who can be against me? Around this same time, I received a call from a Utah business consultant specializing in helping people start an accounting practice. I hired them, they gave me the tools I needed to get started, and Prosperity Bookkeeping LLC was born!

Now in our eighth year of operation, things have changed considerably. I used to be driving all over the place, meeting clients face-to-face, picking up their paperwork, sometimes even working at their location. Today, we are completely paperless, all meetings are via video conference, and we have many apps that make virtual bookkeeping a breeze for our clients and us alike. Automation has also come a long way. Unlike before, we now only accept clients who use QuickBooks Online and will require a migration for any current clients on desktop.

When it comes to aspects of what I do that I love the most, that is hard to answer. Honestly, I love all of it, though I admit that some things are enjoyable only in moderation. Clean-up jobs are a great example of this. They are very challenging, and they can quickly drain you, but it is so satisfying to take something that was a hot mess and make it right.

My business philosophy is “God first, family second, career third.”

As an individual, I believe what sets me apart from others is I teach our clients how to become and remain financially sound so that they are prepared for growth and setbacks alike. We teach them how to appropriately reward themselves, their employees and how to add value to their business while remaining responsible to their suppliers, their customers, and their government. We show our clients how to get back in balance with a spending plan that creates systems that practically manage the business and the people for them. We also clarify that it is not an employer, a customer, a parent, or the government who provides. All of them are just the vessels God uses to deliver what he has chosen to assign to our care.

I truly attribute my success to my Father in Heaven. As it is said in Philippians 4:13

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

My most satisfying moment in business is when I hear the words, “you are a lifesaver!” It means my clients are receiving value from our services, and this has given me immense satisfaction over the years.

When I am not at work, my favorite hobby is learning. I spend a lot of my non-work time reading books and watching videos about business and money management. I also like downhill skiing and love to spend time with my family doing pretty much anything.

I also believe in giving back to society and, as part of that belief, feel very strongly that we need to find a way to give people a hand up out of poverty, rather than a handout. I also don’t think a pay raise at work should trigger a disproportionate loss of government assistance, subsidized food, housing, healthcare, or childcare.
